The Building Safety Act 2022 places an obligation on Clients to ensure the consultants and project teams you employ are competent to undertake the roles they employed for. If you are a non professional client you may not know how to make such an assessment. The spark that ignited the idea was when Stuart wondered how non professional Clients could possibly meet the statutory duty to 'ensure' when they have to trust that professional people are competent to undertake their duties. As the tragic Grenfell disaster demonstrated and the resulting enquiry concluded, there are many errors, assumptions and a lack of knowledge and understanding at every level of the construction process. If this can happen to Kensington Borough Council, then what chance do average people have?
Hence the idea was born.
